  • Understanding the ABIM exam: Internal medicine being very broad in scope, the examination sets out to focus on specific subspecialties and topics.  This is outlined in the Certification Exam Blueprints .
  • Board Study Planning Templates for 2022-2023: Your board study plan should be individualized and tailored to your clinical rotation schedule.  Use these templates to set up goals to complete questions and review topics according to your schedule.

Core Board Studying Resources

  • MKSAP Question Bank Login
    • We recommend two-passes through the question bank across PGY-2 and PGY-3.  The first pass will be slow, and you will learn most effectively by reading through the explanations.  The second pass is typically much faster, as much of the content will become familiar.
    • ≥70% correct is a good benchmark
    • Completing the question bank alone is insufficient for board review.  There are many more subtopics to cover and charts to review that will provide you the core knowledge.
  • MKSAP Review Books
    • There are a lot of books
    • Recommend reading on areas you’ve identified as weak (i.e. low ITE score)
  • Uworld Qbank Sign-up
    • UWorld offers another whole question bank.  It is most helpful if you have exhausted MKSAP or find that you are not gaining new knowledge on the second pass.
    • UWorld questions have been noted to match the style and content you will encounter on the ABIM.

Board Review Courses

Various review courses are offered to for the ABIM certification exam (that’s you). You should select a course that appeals to your learning style: audio, visual or both; scheduled versus self-guided.  The online review courses can be completed in parallel with questions under corresponding topics.  Otherwise, these courses are best utilized after you have reviewed the core materials and completed sometime in the spring/summer before your scheduled examination date. These courses are recommended based on experience, and the Program has no financial disclosures.
