Dear Residents,

Please complete this form to submit your requests for your block schedule for the 2026-2027 academic year. We do our best to accommodate requests that impact your medical education, career, and significant personal life events. Day-to-day scheduling will be arranged in the future by the Chief Residents (e.g. so please do not request specific weekends off unless it is your wedding). Resident requests will be prioritized based on the order they are received.

The deadline for submission is February 10, 2026.

That's a problem. Schedule your Step 3 immediately in coordination with the Chief Residents. You are required to take Step 3 before advancing to PGY-2, and your schedule requests will not be given priority.

Having a DEA license in order to prescribe controlled substances (not just opioids) is an expected part of training. Apply for your license as soon as possible and sign up for Electronic Prescribing of Controlled Substances (EPCS). The application is quick and free if you choose to practice within the scope of DHS.

And finally, let's discuss some specific scheduling requests

Remember, you will remain in the same Pod. Therefore your +1 Ambulatory weeks are set, and you can find out which weeks those are using this chart. Other rotations are generally 2-week blocks and should not overlap +1 Ambulatory weeks.

Vacations and Electives: The Program will do its best to accommodate requests, and we will prioritize requests that impact your career path and completion of training. There will be a limit on the number of vacationers or electives in any given block, particularly November-January and April-May. Vacation preferences in June, July, and August are typically easy to accommodate. Elective time will be scheduled but the specific elective choice must be submitted for approval to the Chief Residents. Vacation and elective blocks should not overlap +1 Ambulatory weeks.

Instructions:

Identify your +1 Ambulatory weeks using the chart.
Specify your preference for your first and second vacation blocks (each two weeks).
Specify any request for electives or other rotations (up to 3) and when you would prefer this to be scheduled.
At the bottom, prioritize your requests (priority 1 = highest priority).
